GhostBed Mattress Firmness and Feel

We always like to start a review with a mattresses firmness and feel.

This information is useful in determining which type of mattress will be the right fit for you.

To find out what the Ghostbed feels like, continue reading.

How Firm Is the GhostBed?

The GhostBed gets an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which means it’s firmer than average.

The high-density support foam is the reason for much of this firmness. The high-density support foam is designed to provide a stable sleeping surface that is well-suited to back and stomach sleeping styles.

Sleeping on the GhostBed

For most back sleepers, the GhostBed will deliver just the right level of support, allowing hips to sink into the mattress without feeling like you’re bottoming out.

Most lightweight back sleepers will find the GhostBed is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers. It’s a bit firm, but still comfortable.

Stomach sleepers should also find the support they require under the hips.

If you are a side sleeper, we recommend having a look at the Ghostbed Luxe, as it is a softer mattress.

What Does the GhostBed Feel Like?

This mattress is a good, comfortable choice for those who move a lot during the night. It responds well to movement and fits the contours of the body.

Average Weight Sleepers (130 lbs – 230 lbs)

For back sleepers who are closer to the low end of this weight range, it’s possible that the GhostBed will feel a little bit too firm. Again, we enrourage you to check out the Ghostbed Luxe or the 3D Matrix.

The right balance of comfort and support is what those closer to 230 lbs will find.

Stomach sleepers in this weight range should find the GhostBed supportive and comfortable.

However, for average weight side sleepers, the GhostBed isn’t going to be the best match; it simply doesn’t have enough give to relieve pressure points. For average weight side sleepers, take a look at the Ghostbed Luxe.

Heavyweight Sleepers (>230 lbs)

Even though the Ghostbed is quite comfortable, those who are more than 300 lbs should consider a mattress that has been made with coils for added durability and support.

The GhostBed should be able to provide just the right level of firmness for stomach sleepers who weigh around 230 lbs. Those closer to 300 lbs, however, may want to look for a sturdier mattress.

The GhostBed is likely to feel too firm for side sleepers in the heavier category. We recommend checking out the Ghostbed Flex if this is you.

Lightweight Sleepers (<130 lbs)

The GhostBed may feel too firm, so lightweight back and side sleepers need to be aware of that.

Those who prefer side sleeping may experience some pain at the shoulders and hips. For those we recommend either the Ghostbed Flex or Ghostbed Luxe.

The GhostBed should be good for lightweight stomach sleepers.

GhostBed Mattress Construction

Ghostbed From CostcoNow, let’s look under the cover of the GhostBed mattress and see exactly what is inside. Our research team will take each component of the GhostBed mattress one by one and figure out what it does for the overall performance.

Cover

The material on the cover of the GhostBed mattress is a stretchy polyester material, which is very thin and breathable. It does a good job of keeping the mattress comfortable.

Comfort Layers

1.5″ of aerated latex foam is under the cover of the GhostBed.

It’s important to note that this is synthetic latex, so those looking for an all-natural or organic option may want to look elsewhere.

From a performance perspective, this latex does the trick: It is very responsive and it’s ventilation helps to keep you cool.

Under that is a second 2″ of gel memory foam, for additional defense against feeling sticky and sweating. It also adds pressure relief to the top of the mattress.

Support Layer

The GhostBed has 7.5″ of high-density foam in the support foundation, helping to keep the mattress firm, steady, and stable.

Mattress Height

The Ghostbed is 11″ tall in total.

GhostBed Mattress Performance

We have explained what the GhostBed is made of, and what it feels like, but for many shoppers, the real test is how the mattress performs. Let’s check to see how the GhostBed did.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Ghostbed makes some big claims about the coolness of their mattress, and it lives up to everything they claim.

Ghostbed use latex and gel in their mattresses that are known for their cooling properties.

This mattress comes with some extra-added ventilation to help keep the sleeper cool during warmer nights.

Motion Transfer

There is some bounce to the GhostBed, which is welcome news for combination sleepers, but not so much for couples.

Since it isn’t the best at isolating motion, it is possible that sharing the mattress could cause some disturbance through the night.

If you are looking the best mattress for couples, we recommend the Ghostbed Luxe.

Edge Support

Excellent edge support is assured by the sturdy foam construction of the GhostBed.

You’ll be feeling perfectly steady and well-supported when you sit at the corner or sleep at the edge of your mattress.

Durability

This mattress uses high-quality materials.

We consider it to be highly durable and should last for more than seven to 10 years.

Off-Gassing

When you first unbox your GhostBed, you may notice a faint chemical smell.

It completely dissipated in less than 48 hours. This is to be expected from a bed in a box mattress.

Noise

We were not able to notice any noise from the Ghostbed mattress.

Sex

It is really easy to move around on the GhostBed.

It would be an excellent mattress for sex, as partners should be able to move around.

Warranty

This mattress comes with a 101-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty. Those two factors should help give you confidence when you’re deciding to buy the mattress.

Ghostbed Return Policy

Returning a GhostBed mattress is simple. In fact, it’s a lot easier than almost any other return that you make.

Below is a step-by-step breakdown of how the return process works.

Step 1: Contact GhostBed

The first thing to do is reach out to GhostBed after day 30 but before day 101. You can do this by following the below steps:

They’ll need to identify your order, so pull up the receipt or email with the order number to expedite the process.

Step 2: Complete the Requested Information

GhostBed might ask you to fill out a form or send photos. The form is to help them organize the return while the photos demonstrate that your mattress is still in great condition. If your mattress is not in good shape, the charity won’t take it, and GhostBed won’t give a refund.

To keep your new mattress safe, we recommend using a waterproof mattress cover from the first night you sleep on the bed. You don’t want a spill or other accident to make it so you can’t return the mattress.

Step 3: Prepare for Mattress Pickup

GhostBed will work with you to schedule a date and time for mattress pick up. While you won’t need to rebox your mattress, you must prepare it for donation. This typically includes carrying it to your front door and being home for the mattress pickup.

Step 4: Watch for Your Refund

After the mattress has been donated, you’ll be able to get a refund. You’ll receive a refund within 3 business days of the date of mattress pickup. It will be returned to you in your original form of payment.

Ghostbed Summary

The GhostBed is a bed in a box that comes with better materials and is less expensive. If you’re a stomach sleeper or a hot sleeper, this may be the best choice for you.

The GhostBed is a lower priced bed-in-a-box that has higher quality materials. This may be one of the best values on the market and, if you are a hot sleeper, it could be a good choice for you.
